Scag Mower Blade Bolt Torque Specs
Scag Tiger Cat, Patriot, and the legendary Turf Tiger commercial Z-turns use a 15/16" or 1-1/8" blade bolt with a tab-locked retaining washer — over-built relative to the bolt.
What torque should I use on a Scag blade bolt?
Scag blade bolt torque is typically 95–125 ft-lb on a 15/16" socket with 5/8"-18 UNF thread. Threadlocker: Blue Loctite on Turf Tiger; not required on Tiger Cat. Always confirm the exact figure for your specific model — deck design, blade thickness, and spindle stack-up move the spec by 10–20 ft-lb between models in the same brand line.
Scag Tiger Cat II 52" Zero-Turn blade bolt torque
95–110 ft-lb on a 15/16" socket, 5/8"-18 UNF thread. Bend tab washer back before removing. Replace washer every 3rd service.
Scag Turf Tiger II 61" Commercial Zero-Turn blade bolt torque
110–125 ft-lb on a 1-1/8" socket, 3/4"-16 UNF thread. Apply Loctite 242. Re-torque after first 8 hours.
Pro tip for Scag blade service
Scag tab washers are reusable up to 3 bend cycles per the service manual — after that the steel work-hardens and the tab snaps. Replace them every 3rd blade change.
Step-by-step Scag blade-bolt reinstall
Disconnect the spark plug, engage parking brake, tip the mower (carb-side up). Block the blade with a 2×4 — never your hand. Use a 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 6-point socket. Clean threads with brake cleaner. Apply Blue Loctite on Turf Tiger; not required on Tiger Cat. Torque in one smooth pull with a calibrated torque wrench. Re-check after first hour of cutting.
