Pressure Washer Bolt Torque Specs
Engine and pump fastener torque for pressure washers by brand — Honda GC series, Briggs & Stratton 850-950 Series, and Generac 212cc OHV platforms. Includes the pump mounting bolt torque, which is the fastener most likely to be wrong after a pump swap.
Torque specs by brand
Honda GC160 and GC190 (horizontal shaft): spark plug 14 ft-lbs (20 N·m), flywheel nut 38 ft-lbs (52 N·m), oil drain plug 17 ft-lbs (24 N·m), pump mounting bolts 35-45 ft-lbs. These engines have no cylinder head bolts — the head is cast integral with the cylinder barrel and there is no head gasket, so the only fastener there is the cylinder head cover: four M6x1.0 bolts at 12 N·m (106 in-lbs), sealed with liquid packing. Briggs & Stratton 850-950 Series (horizontal shaft): spark plug 18-22 ft-lbs, head bolts 140-160 in-lbs, flywheel nut 60-75 ft-lbs, oil drain 11-13 ft-lbs, pump bolts 30-40 ft-lbs. Generac 212cc OHV pressure washer platforms: spark plug 18-22 ft-lbs, head bolts 130-150 in-lbs, flywheel nut 60-70 ft-lbs, oil drain 11-14 ft-lbs, pump bolts 30-40 ft-lbs.
Pump mounting bolts are the ones that matter
A pressure washer pump is bolted directly to the engine crankshaft flange and carries the full pulsation load of the pump every cycle. Under-torqued pump bolts let the pump walk on the flange, which chews the crankshaft and destroys the pump shaft seal; over-torqued bolts crack the aluminium pump housing. Torque them to spec in a cross pattern and re-check after the first hour of use following any pump replacement.
