Case Skid Steer & Excavator Torque Specs

OEM fastener torque specifications for Case 1825, 1835C, 1840, and 1845C skid steers and the 170B excavator — all Case 4-390 diesel-powered. Hydraulic fittings, track-drive bolts, loader-arm pins, and engine fasteners, with ranges and re-torque notes. Always confirm against your machine-specific Case service manual; fasteners that require a tightening sequence are marked.

Quick-reference torque specs (Case 4-390 models)

Hydraulic fitting (9/16"-18 ORB) 22-26 ft-lbs and (3/4"-16 ORB) 36-44 ft-lbs — face-seal O-ring boss, no thread sealant. Track sprocket bolt 148-185 ft-lbs; idler mount bolt 185 ft-lbs (1835C/1840/1845C) re-torqued after 50 hours. Loader arm pivot-pin lock bolt 85-110 ft-lbs. Boom foot pin lock (170B) 185 ft-lbs (24mm). Engine oil drain plug (4-390) 25-30 ft-lbs with a new crush washer. Alternator pivot bolt 65 ft-lbs (17mm); fuel tank mount 85 ft-lbs; water pump and fan-shroud bolts 22 ft-lbs (13mm).

Sequence-required and safety-critical fasteners

The swing bearing bolt (170B), counterweight bolt (170B), injection-pump mount bolt, and starter mount bolt require the Case-specified tightening sequence rather than a single value — do not tighten in one pass. The counterweight is safety-critical; follow the manual exactly and replace any fastener showing stretch.
