Zero-Turn Mower Wheel Lug Torque Chart

OEM-cited rear drive-wheel lug torque for Toro, eXmark, Ariens, Husqvarna, Ferris, Kubota, and Bad Boy — plus a separate front caster table (none of those are lug nuts) and the manuals we read that print no lug figure at all, including two John Deere/Cub Cadet traps where a similar-sounding figure is a different fastener entirely.

Rear drive-wheel lug torque, by brand

Every row is a figure quoted directly from a manufacturer service or operator's manual. Ferris and Kubota thread a BOLT into the hub rather than a nut onto a stud — labelled accordingly, not as "lug nuts."

BrandModelFastenerTorqueSource
Toro TimeCutter (models 74685, 74687, 74690, 74694, 74710, 75740, 75741, 75742, 75742TA, 75743, 75745TA, 75755TA) lug nuts 70–90 ft-lb (94.5–122 N·m) TimeCutter Service Manual (3433-938 Rev A, p.6-11 (repeated p.6-18)): “the rear wheel to the hub. Torque the lug nuts to 94.5–122 N • m (70–90 ft-lb).”
⚠️ This is the model-specific reassembly-procedure figure. Toro’s own Specifications chapter also prints a GENERIC wheel-bolt/lug-nut table by thread size (65 ± 10 or 80 ± 10 ft-lb) that is not tied to the TimeCutter by name — shown separately below, not merged into this row.
eXmark Lazer Z Advantage Series, SN 670,000+ (LAS25KC604, LAS28KA524, LAS28KA604, LAS28KA724, LAS25KC604B, LAS28KA724B) lug nuts 90–95 ft-lb (122–129 N·m) Lazer Z Advantage Series Operator’s Manual (Part No. 109-6447 Rev A, p.14): “90-95 ft-lbs. (122-129 N-m)”
⚠️ The same Torque Requirements table lists a wheel-motor tapered-shaft slotted nut (min 125 ft-lb) and wheel-motor mounting bolts (72–77 ft-lb) right next to this row — different fasteners on the drive hub, not the lug nuts. This is an older (SN 670,000+) Lazer Z AS line; do not generalize to current Lazer Z models.
Ariens IKON / IKON ONYX 52 / IKON SELECT / IKON CE (918001–918006, 918026, 918027, 918028, 918300, 918301) lug nuts 60–90 lb-ft (81–122 N·m) IKON Service Manual (09690530A • 7/25, p.EN-45 (procedure); p.EN-85 (Critical Torques table)): “Torque lug nuts to 81 N•m – 122 N•m (60 lb-ft – 90 lb-ft).”
Husqvarna MZ54 lug nuts 75 ft-lb (102 N·m) MZ54 Operator’s Manual (2612 - 001 - 15.11.2024, p.28): “Lug nuts, ft-lb/Nm 75/102”
Ferris ISX800Z (5901745–5901834) lug bolts 85–95 ft-lb (115–129 N·m) ISX800Z Operator’s Manual (OM 5106555 Rev C, p.42): “Re-install the rear drive tires. Torque the lug bolts to 85-95 ft.lbs. (115-129 Nm).”
⚠️ Ferris uses lug BOLTS threaded directly into the rear hub, not nuts on studs — do not call these "lug nuts" when ordering parts or comparing torque wrenches.
Kubota ZD221 (K3131-7121-3) wheel bolts 65–75 N·m (48–55 ft-lb, 6.6–7.6 kgf-m) ZD221 Operator’s Manual (K3131-7121-3, p.31): “tighten the wheel bolt to the following torques then recheck after traveling 200 m (200 yards) changing directions several times.”
⚠️ Kubota calls this a rear "wheel bolt," not a lug nut — it threads into the hub the same way Ferris’s does. The manual also says to recheck this torque after traveling 200 m (200 yards), as printed.
Bad Boy ZT Elite (BZS48/54/60KT726, BZS48/54/60FR730, BZS54/60CXI27, BZSM60FR730), Maverick (BMR48/54/60FS730, BMR54/60ZT740, BMR54/60CXI27), and MZ Rambler/Magnum (BMZ4219BG, BMZ42KT722, BMZ42FR651, BMZ48/54/60…) — all three 2026 service manuals print the identical figure wheel lugs 65–75 ft-lb (88–102 N·m) ZT Elite Service Manual (also printed identically in the Maverick and MZ Rambler/Magnum Service Manuals) (Rev C: 2-20-2026 (ZT Elite); Rev C: 2-18-2026 (Maverick); Rev D: 2-18-2026 (MZ Series), p.6-11 (ZT Elite, Maverick); p.6-8 (MZ Series)): “Torque rear wheel lugs (3) to 65–75 ft-lb (88–102 N•m). Retorque at every oil change and before each use.”
⚠️ The "(3)" or "(4)" after "rear wheel lugs" in the quote is a drawing callout number, not a lug count — the ZT Elite and MZ Series manuals print "(3)" and the Maverick manual prints "(4)" for the identical instruction.
Retorque at every oil change and before each use

Toro’s generic wheel-bolt table (steel wheels, non-lubricated fasteners)

A generic Specifications-chapter table by thread size, not tied to the TimeCutter by name — shown separately from the TimeCutter's own 70–90 ft-lb procedure figure above.

Thread sizeTorque
7/16-20 UNF Grade 5 65 ± 10 ft-lb (88 ± 14 N·m)
1/2-20 UNF Grade 5, M12×1.25, or M12×1.5 Class 8.8 80 ± 10 ft-lb (108 ± 14 N·m)

TimeCutter Service Manual (3433-938 Rev A, p.2-8): “Wheel Bolts and Lug Nuts** — 7/16 - 20 UNF Grade 5 65 ± 10 ft-lb 88 ± 14 N • m; 1/2 - 20 UNF Grade 5 / M12 X 1.25 / M12 X 1.5 Class 8.8 80 ± 10 ft-lb 108 ± 14 N • m. **For steel wheels and non-lubricated fasteners.”

Front caster torque — not lug nuts

The front caster wheel is not driven and none of these fasteners are lug nuts — caster wheel bolts/nuts, caster-fork pivot hardware, and stub-shaft/axle hardware are all different jobs from the rear-wheel table above.

Toro TimeCutter Caster fork-to-stub-shaft bolt (½ inch) — conflicting figures for the SAME bolt in two different procedures 200–225 in-lb (22.5–25 N·m) — Caster Fork Installation, p.5-16 TimeCutter Service Manual (3433-938 Rev A, p.5-16 (Caster Fork Installation) vs. p.5-21 (Stub Shaft Installation, step 6)): “Torque bolt to 22.5–25 N • m (200–225 in-lb). … caster fork to the stub shaft. Torque the bolt to 36.5–44.5 N • m (27–33 ft-lb).”
⚠️ The Stub Shaft Installation procedure (p.5-21, step 6) tightens the identical ½ inch caster fork-to-stub-shaft bolt to 36.5–44.5 N·m (27–33 ft-lb) instead — roughly double the p.5-16 figure. The manual does not reconcile the two; both are printed here rather than picking one.

⚠️ Do not carry this figure to the Z248FX below — it is a different, model-specific figure, not a shared platform spec.
Husqvarna Z248FX Front wheel nut and bolt 50 ft-lb (67.8 N·m) Z248FX Operator’s Manual (2599 - 001 - 07.11.2024, p.19): “and bolt to 50 ft-lbs / 67.8 Nm.”
⚠️ The Z248FX prints no rear DRIVE-wheel lug torque anywhere — see the not-published list below. This front-wheel figure is the only wheel torque this manual gives.
Kubota ZD221 Caster wheel bolt / nylon lock nut (bearing-play setting) 20–25 N·m (14.8–18.4 ft-lb) ZD221 Operator’s Manual (K3131-7121-3, p.32): “Tightening torque (14.8 to 18.4 ft-lbs)”
Bad Boy ZT Elite, Maverick, and MZ Rambler/Magnum (all three 2026 service manuals) Front fork (caster pivot) nuts, under the dust cap 100 ft-lb (135 N·m) ZT Elite Service Manual (also printed identically in the Maverick and MZ Rambler/Magnum Service Manuals) (Rev C: 2-20-2026 (ZT Elite); Rev C: 2-18-2026 (Maverick); Rev D: 2-18-2026 (MZ Series), p.6-11 (ZT Elite, Maverick); p.6-8 (MZ Series)): “Tighten the front fork nuts to a torque of 100 ft-lb (135 N•m).”

Manuals we read that print no rear-wheel lug torque

These manuals were located and read for rear drive-wheel lug torque. None of them print a figure for it — an honest absence, not a gap in the search. Two of them (John Deere, Cub Cadet) print a DIFFERENT wheel-sounding figure elsewhere that is not the drive-wheel lug — flagged below.

BrandModelWhat the manual saysSource
Husqvarna Z248FX No rear drive-wheel lug torque is printed anywhere in this manual. The only wheel torque it gives is the front wheel nut and bolt, 50 ft-lb (67.8 Nm) — see the caster table above. Z248FX Operator’s Manual (2599 - 001 - 07.11.2024, p.28): “Spark plug torque, lb-ft / Nm 16 / 22”
John Deere Z300 Series ZTrak (Z335E, Z335M, Z345M, Z345R, Z355E, Z355R, Z375R) The manual only says wheel hardware "must be tightened to specified torque" without printing a number for the rear drive wheel.
⚠️ A 34 N·m (25 lb-ft) "Mower Wheel Nut" figure IS printed elsewhere in this manual — but it torques the mower DECK gauge wheel (a 13 mm nut on a carriage bolt through the gauge-wheel bracket), not a drive wheel. Do not apply it to the rear wheels.
Z300 Series ZTrak Operator’s Manual (OMGX26531 Issue A4, p.14 (wheel-hardware statement); p.21 (gauge-wheel trap figure)): “Wheel hardware must be tightened to specified torque using the … Mower Wheel Nut—Torque … 34 N·m (25 lb-ft).”
Scag Tiger Cat (STC48V-22FS and related) and Turf Tiger (STT52V-26CH-EFI and related) Both operator’s manuals list the lug nut only in the parts diagram — part number and thread (1/2-20) — with no torque value printed anywhere in either book. Tiger Cat Operator’s Manual (Turf Tiger prints the identical part line) (Book 03361 (Tiger Cat); Book 03364 (Turf Tiger), p.59 (Tiger Cat); p.63 (Turf Tiger)): “04028-02 Lug Nut, 1/2-20”
Gravely Pro-Turn 48 / 52 / 60 (991200, 991201, 991202, 991203) The Owner/Operator Manual gives only a generic instruction, with no lug-nut-specific figure anywhere in the book. Pro-Turn Owner/Operator Manual (04798600, p.EN-25): “Tighten all nuts and bolts to their correct torque value.”
Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 Series No rear drive-wheel lug torque is printed anywhere in this operator’s manual.
⚠️ The 28-35 ft-lb figure in this manual is the deck-LIFT PEDAL pivot nut, not a wheel lug — a 57 ft-lb figure elsewhere in the same book is a deck-hanger jam nut. Neither is a drive-wheel fastener.
Ultima ZT1 Series Zero-Turn Rider Operator’s Manual (Form No. 769-18950D, p.20): “removed and torque the nut to 28-35 ft-lb.”

Unverified claim on this site: Husqvarna Z254

src/data/mowerBrandData.js carries an unverified note that the Z254’s table lists engine crankshaft bolt, deck pulley bolts, and lug nuts all at 75 ft-lb — but the Z254 manual itself was not located this pass, so that figure is NOT in the table above and should not be treated as confirmed. It is also inconsistent with the (confirmed) MZ54 table, which prints three different figures for those same three fasteners — crankshaft bolt 50, deck pulley 150, lug nuts 75.

Not checked this pass: Hustler, Husqvarna Z254

Hustler’s manual host (4qte.com/pdf/Hustler/) returned a 307 redirect to an empty Location header and was not reachable this pass. Husqvarna Z254’s product/support pages are JS-rendered with no direct PDF link found; see ZERO_TURN_LUG_UNVERIFIED above for the one unconfirmed claim about it already on this site.

Rear drive-wheel lug torque, by brand

Toro TimeCutter: 70–90 ft-lb (94.5–122 N·m), the model-specific reassembly-procedure figure — a separate, generic Specifications-chapter table by thread size (65 ± 10 or 80 ± 10 ft-lb, for steel wheels and non-lubricated fasteners) is not tied to the TimeCutter by name. eXmark Lazer Z Advantage Series (older SN 670,000+ line): 90–95 ft-lb (122–129 N·m). Ariens IKON: 60–90 lb-ft (81–122 N·m). Husqvarna MZ54: 75 ft-lb (102 N·m). Ferris ISX800Z: 85–95 ft-lb (115–129 N·m) — lug BOLTS, not nuts. Kubota ZD221: 65–75 N·m (48–55 ft-lb) — wheel BOLTS, not lug nuts. Bad Boy’s three 2026 lines (ZT Elite, Maverick, MZ Rambler/Magnum): 65–75 ft-lb (88–102 N·m), with an explicit instruction to retorque at every oil change and before each use.

Front caster torque — not lug nuts

The front caster wheel is not driven and none of its fasteners are lug nuts. Toro’s caster wheel bolt/nut is 27–37 ft-lb (36.5–50 N·m); its caster fork-to-stub-shaft bolt has two conflicting figures in the same manual, 200–225 in-lb in one procedure and 27–33 ft-lb in another, both shown rather than picking one. Ariens IKON’s caster carriage-bolt nut is 64 lb-ft (87 N·m) and its caster fork/hub hex bolt is 178 lb-in (20 N·m). Husqvarna’s front wheel nut/bolt is 45 ft-lb on the MZ54 and 50 ft-lb on the Z248FX — model-specific, not interchangeable. Kubota’s caster wheel bolt/lock nut is 20–25 N·m, and Bad Boy’s front fork caster-pivot nuts (all three 2026 lines) are 100 ft-lb (135 N·m).

Manuals that print no rear-wheel lug torque

Husqvarna’s Z248FX, John Deere’s Z300 series (Z335E–Z375R), Scag’s Tiger Cat and Turf Tiger, Gravely’s Pro-Turn 48/52/60, and Cub Cadet’s Ultima ZT1 were all read for a rear drive-wheel lug figure and none of them print one — an honest absence, not a gap in the search. Two traps: John Deere’s 34 N·m "Mower Wheel Nut" is the mower DECK gauge wheel, not a drive wheel, and Cub Cadet’s 28–35 ft-lb figure is the deck-lift pedal pivot nut. Hustler and Husqvarna Z254 were not reached this pass; a Z254 lug figure carried elsewhere on this site (src/data/mowerBrandData.js) has not been confirmed against a manual and is not repeated here as fact.

What torque should I use on my zero-turn mower’s rear wheel lug nuts?

It varies by brand: Toro TimeCutter 70–90 ft-lb, eXmark Lazer Z AS 90–95 ft-lb, Ariens IKON 60–90 lb-ft, Husqvarna MZ54 75 ft-lb, Ferris ISX800Z 85–95 ft-lb (lug bolts, not nuts), Kubota ZD221 65–75 N·m (wheel bolts), and Bad Boy’s three 2026 lines 65–75 ft-lb. Match the figure to your exact model — do not carry one brand’s number to another.

Are the front caster wheel bolts the same torque as the rear lug nuts?

No — the front caster is a different, non-driven wheel with its own set of fasteners (caster wheel bolt/nut, caster-fork pivot bolt, stub-shaft hardware), and none of them are lug nuts. See the separate caster table above; several brands print a lower figure there than on the rear wheel.

Does Toro really print two different lug torques?

Yes, in two different places. The TimeCutter Service Manual’s reassembly procedure gives a model-specific 70–90 ft-lb figure — that is the one to use. A separate, generic Specifications-chapter table by thread size (65 ± 10 or 80 ± 10 ft-lb, footnoted for steel wheels and non-lubricated fasteners) is not tied to the TimeCutter by name and is shown only as reference.

Why do some zero-turn brands have no published lug torque?

Husqvarna’s Z248FX, John Deere’s Z300 series, Scag’s Tiger Cat/Turf Tiger, Gravely’s Pro-Turn, and Cub Cadet’s Ultima ZT1 manuals were all read cover-to-cover for a rear-wheel lug figure and none of them print one — a genuine absence in the source, not a page we have not gotten to. Two of them (John Deere, Cub Cadet) print a different, similar-sounding figure for an unrelated fastener — see the trap notes in the table above.

Does Bad Boy really want the wheel lugs re-torqued that often?

Yes, as printed: all three of Bad Boy’s 2026 service manuals (ZT Elite, Maverick, MZ Rambler/Magnum) say to retorque the rear wheel lugs at every oil change and before each use, immediately after giving the 65–75 ft-lb figure.
